Test Drive the New Panamera: Final Touches
September 17, 2023
In Scandinavia, the Panamera was driven in very low temperatures; in South Africa, the car coped with difficult road conditions; while in Asia, high humidity and idle times in megacities posed particular challenges for the entire package.
"We test every new car intensively to meet our requirements and, of course, those of our customers worldwide," says Development Manager Marcel Hönemann. "The standard we set is always the development goals defined in the specifications. The new Panamera must stand out here and now, particularly in terms of efficiency, comfort, and acoustics.".
The new Panamera is now available in four E-Hybrid variants
At Porsche, the right powertrain is essential for optimal performance. The new Panamera features a completely updated engine lineup, focusing on cutting-edge solutions for balanced powertrains and efficiency.
"After already offering three E-Hybrid models for the second-generation Panamera, we will add a fourth plug-in hybrid in the new Panamera. This is our response to the enormous demand from our customers. In some countries, the share of E-hybrid vehicles in the Panamera is almost 100%. The new version is a high-performance model that fits perfectly into our comprehensive range," says Dr. Thomas Friemuth, Head of the Panamera Product Line. "We are increasing the electric performance of the Panamera in all E-Hybrid models in terms of driving dynamics and important parameters such as electric range and charging speed.
The foundation of all E-Hybrid models in the new Panamera is a new, more powerful electric motor, which is now fully integrated into the housing of the new dual-clutch transmission. It offers higher drivetrain efficiency and recuperation than its predecessor while reducing weight. Its energy is supplied by a high-voltage battery with a significantly larger capacity of 25.9 kWh. An 11 kW on-board charger shortens charging times despite the increased energy content.
Fundamental changes to the combustion engines deliver additional efficiency and performance. All powertrains in the new Panamera are prepared for future emissions standards.
"I'm delighted with the progress we've made in electrification. The integration and combination of the two drive systems in the Panamera works absolutely seamlessly and harmoniously. Thanks to the new drive systems, the car is characterized by exceptional ease and reliability when accelerating," reports Arno Bögl, Project Manager for the Powertrain in the Panamera product line, from the test drive.
With innovative air suspension
In addition to a comprehensively revised engine lineup, the new Panamera also features other new features. For the first time, the Panamera can be equipped with an optional high-performance chassis with active damper control and a wide range of additional features.
"With our active chassis, we're setting new standards. We could feel this on every meter of our test drives – incredibly comfortable on the cobblestones of Barcelona's port, and incredibly dynamic and agile on winding country roads outside the city. An incomparably wide range," says Thomas Friemuth.
The new Panamera comes standard with a semi-active suspension with new two-valve dampers that can independently adjust the compression and rebound damping. This significantly expands the range of comfort and performance chassis tuning, even with the new standard chassis.
Information
Test drives will be used to make the final adjustments to the new Panamera before its world premiere. Porsche will present the third generation of the four-door sports car at the Icons of Porsche festival in Dubai on November 24, 2023. The car will be unveiled to festival attendees on November 25-26, 2023.
