Hotel Kösslerhof St Anton am Arlberg – a luxurious home away from home

January 19, 2023

Snow, mountains, and fresh, clean air are the perfect conditions to clear your mind and bring a sense of freedom.

In mid-December 2022, we were incredibly fortunate to be invited to spend a few days at the wonderful 4-star Hotel Kösslerhof in St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria. The hotel is conveniently located just a two-minute walk from the ski slopes. The location allows for easy access to the city center thanks to excellent bus service. The city center boasts dozens of beautiful shops, cafés, and restaurants worth exploring.

The hotel is authentic and delightful, and its boutique character is maintained by the family who manage it. A familiar and friendly, warm and welcoming, yet relaxing atmosphere is Kösslerhof's hallmark. The attention to detail in the main dining room and hotel rooms was stunning, and the high-quality materials, soft lighting, and warm colors created a cozy, homely, luxurious atmosphere.

Once we arrived and checked in, it was “tea time” – we were greeted by a beautiful display of teas and cakes, most welcome after our journey from London to St Anton via Zurich.

After unpacking, we explored the town. It's a typically quaint and stylish town with classic ski boutiques and a variety of other shops and services.

We returned to Kösslerhof in time for our gastronomic five-course evening meal, a highlight of our stay every night. We sampled many wonderful dishes, and the chef created some of the most delicious dishes I've ever eaten. There were three set appetizers, followed by a choice of two main courses and dessert, all washed down with recommended wines, perfectly paired with the dishes, or soft drinks.

The hotel has arguably the most luxurious spa area of any 4-star hotel we've visited; the attention to detail throughout is incredible. The spa features heated infrared loungers to soothe aches and pains skiers might experience after returning from the slopes, a sauna, a sanarium, and a beautiful relaxation room with soft, fluffy blankets and stunning mountain views. You can also book a massage if you feel the need after a long day on the slopes.

The rooms are spacious and well-designed, with some of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in, with duvets as soft as fluffy clouds. The shower cubicle has a huge shower, and towels and slippers were plentiful. We also had a balcony with fabulous mountain views.

Our ski gear was stored in the basement, easily accessible from the parking lot and main reception, keeping it dry and ready for the next day's winter adventures. You can also ski into town and access the main lifts, but the slopes can get icy on cold mornings before the sun gently thaws the frozen surface.

Each day began with a wonderful continental breakfast with eggs cooked to your liking, a variety of juices, tea, and coffee. Then, a five-minute bus ride into town awaited us, followed by a few hours of skiing, and then a well-deserved lunch at one of the dozens of mountain restaurants. Whether you're looking for a quick hot dog and fries or a gourmet meal, they've got it all. After lunch, perhaps a little more skiing and a return to the hotel for freshly baked cakes and cookies, then a visit to the spa and sauna to soothe any aches and pains, and finally, a gourmet dinner and bed.

I must add that the slopes are well maintained, there are plenty of lifts and the trails are great, although they can be a bit challenging.
