THE SKI SEASON HAS ALREADY STARTED IN LECH ZÜRS

December 10, 2022

Traditional yet innovative – one of the world's best ski areas. Arlberg is not only the cradle of alpine skiing but also boasts state-of-the-art, ultra-modern ski infrastructure: 87 cable cars and lifts whisk skiers up the mountain before they descend over 300 kilometers of slopes. The winter season in Lech Zürs began on Friday, December 2, 2022. This is made possible by winter temperatures and the snow that has already fallen, as well as snowmaking and slope crews currently working around the clock.

Lech Zürs is part of the Ski Arlberg ski area, which, with lifts and cable cars in St. Anton, St. Christoph, Stuben, Warth, and Schröcken, offers over 300 km of slopes. It is the largest interconnected ski area in Austria and one of the five largest in the world. The winter season in Lech Zürs will begin on Friday, December 2, 2022.

The Arlberg is considered the cradle of alpine skiing: Austria's first cable car opened in Zürs in 1937. The Galzigbahn cable car in St. Anton was the first cable car in Austria designed for winter use. Today, modern infrastructure provides winter sports enthusiasts with a quick and comfortable access to the mountains. The Lech, Oberlech, and Zürs railway companies have invested over €2.3 million in various innovations for the 2022/23 winter season.

A special highlight is the Ski Arlberg app. Once installed on your smartphone, it serves as a guide and covers the vast ski area. It provides detailed weather and snow information, as well as current information on cable cars, lifts, and ski runs, for example. Using the Ski Arlberg app's navigation system, users can also plan their own routes for the perfect day on the slopes by setting starting points, intermediate stops, and destinations. Thanks to the integrated tracking function, legendary ski runs such as the "RUN of FAME," "Der Weisse Ring," and the iconic "The White Thrill" ski race can also be recorded (including speed measurement) and automatically entered into competitions.

Purchasing a Ski Arlberg ski pass is easy: you can purchase it online through our online shop. You can also give the gift of a unique winter experience in Austria's largest ski resort by purchasing a voucher online at www.skiarlberg.at.

Avid cross-country skiers can enjoy the 27 kilometers of trails in Lech-Zürs. Whether on the ice rink in Lech or the natural ice rink in Zürs, winter on the Arlberg is also exceptionally beautiful for ice skating.

There's a lot going on in the winter of 2022/23

In December 2022, Advent will come to Lech Zürs. From Advent markets and the Baby Jesus parade to Advent songs and readings, the air will be full of excitement in the run-up to Christmas.

From December 7-18, 2022, the "Arlberg Weinberg event" will once again invite gourmets, winemakers, and wine lovers to Lech Zürs. With its exquisite culinary delights, Lech Zürs has been hailed as the "World's Gourmet Village" (leading restaurants in Lech Zürs have received a total of 54 Gault&Millau awards), setting new standards by creating a unique wine culture was a smart move. This led to the "Arlberg Weinberg" event, which first took place in 2015. At more than 25 events, everything revolves around fine wines and excellent food.

From December 8-11, networking will be the focus in Lech. At the "Horizont Winter Summit," representatives from marketing, advertising, and media will gather to discuss the latest industry news.

Finally, on January 21, 2023, at the legendary "Der Weisse Ring" ("The White Ring") race, where over 1,000 athletes will compete in a duel between professionals and amateurs, pure racing fun will be the order of the day. Everyone must overcome 22 kilometers and 5,500 meters of ascents and descents. The route includes six ski trails connecting Lech, Zürs, Zug, and Oberlech. Two days earlier, on January 19, 2023, the skis will be waxed for the "REMUS Team Challenge," which will take place as a super-G at the Flexenarena in Zürs. As a special prize, the 20 fastest REMUS competitors will receive a preferential starting position in the "White Ring.".

If you're looking to race on your computer or smartphone, you should check out Austrian Ski Game. In this game, ski enthusiasts virtually race to beat their personal bests or other skiers on three slopes – including the White Ring in Lech Zürs.
