THIS IS WHAT LUXURY SMELLS LIKE – DISCOVER THE MOST EXPENSIVE PERFUME IN THE WORLD
May 20, 2021
3 million złoty – that's the price of a 210-square-meter smart home in Warsaw (Wawer), controlled by a smartphone app. Did you know that for the equivalent of this amount, you could buy... a 100 ml bottle of the world's most expensive perfume? Discover what luxury smells like and join us in discovering two of the most exclusive fragrances on the planet.
What causes the exorbitantly high prices of perfumes?
Some perfumes are created from extremely rare raw materials. This significantly impacts the fragrance's purchase price. However, in the case of the most expensive perfumes in the world, the ultimate value is determined by... the packaging. The bottle, designed by renowned figures in the jewelry world, dazzles with its sheer number of diamonds and extremely rare gemstones – all of this contributes to the perfume's colossal price.
DKNY Golden Delicious Million Dollar Fragnance Bottle
Our list opens with the most expensive... bottle in the world. The bottle was created in collaboration between DKNY and renowned jewelry designer Martin Katz. The bottle itself is shaped like an apple (the brand's trademark symbol), depicting the New York skyline. Isn't that enough? Well, if the bottle and 100 ml of fragrance cost 3 million złoty, we'd expect something more. And indeed, the designer has meticulously crafted luxurious accessories. The bottle itself is crafted from 14-karat gold (yellow and white). The New York skyline, in turn, is set with nearly 3,000 tiny white diamonds and 183 sapphires. The entire piece is complemented by the world's most expensive gemstones – a ruby, a pear-shaped diamond, and a sapphire (sourced in Sri Lanka).
Interestingly, only one bottle of this fragrance was ever made, but we can't buy it for personal use – it's being auctioned off for charity. It's a consolation for those who can't afford such a generous gesture to know that you can find this fragrance in standard packaging at good drugstores at a relatively affordable price.
SHUMUKH
In 2019, the cosmetics group The Spirit of Dubai Parfums by Nabeel, in cooperation with designer Asghar Adam Ali Ibrahim, created a universal perfume for women and men, which includes oriental notes:
- amber,
- sandalwood,
- agarwood,
- Turkish rose,
- patchouli ylang-ylang,
- musk and
- incense.
The fragrance itself doesn't cost $1.3 million, however. The final price is influenced by the unusual bottle and... a 1.97-meter-high pedestal made of hand-blown Italian Murano glass. The bottle holds up to 3 liters of fragrance and is adorned with precious stones. The number of stones even earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records. The designer used 3,571 diamonds, pearls, and topaz, topping the whole thing with embellishments of pure gold and silver. What does the design represent? It tells the story of Dubai through distinctive, special symbols.
Can an ordinary mortal also afford a bit of luxury?
Of course! Everyone knows the Coco Chanel brand. In 1921, Ernest Beaux created a fragrance beloved by millions of women – Chanel No. 5. This perfume is available in top drugstores, at a price quite affordable for the wealthy – around 1,300 PLN per 100 ml.
