WEMBLEY PARK ANNOUNCES CELEBRATIONS FOR THE CORONATION OF KING CHARLES III

The iconic pedestrian walkway leading to London's National Stadium will be temporarily renamed and will regain its former name in tribute to His Majesty King Charles III.
Wembley Park's Coronation Party will feature a live Coronation screening, family entertainment, street food, crafts, and giant board games. Large ceremonial Union Jack banners will adorn King's Way, and visitors will be able to receive free paper crowns, hats, and flags.

To celebrate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III on Saturday 6 May, the north London borough of Wembley Park will be hosting a free Wembley Park Coronation Celebration.

To mark the occasion, the borough will temporarily rename its renowned route to Wembley Stadium, Olympic Way, to its original name of King's Way for the entire month of May, in recognition of His Majesty's accession to the throne. Widely recognized as "Wembley Way" among football and music enthusiasts worldwide, the famous avenue traces its roots to the early 1900s, when it was originally called "King's Way." On July 6, 1948, Transport Minister Alfred Barnes MP renamed it "Olympic Way" during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, also known as the "Austerity Games," held at Wembley that same year.

Over the years, this famous walkway has hosted countless athletes, musicians and international stars, and has appeared on millions of TV screens around the world as the backdrop to events ranging from Live Aid in 1985 to the recent UEFA EURO 2020 championship.

Visitors to the Wembley Park Coronation Celebration will be able to watch the ceremony from deckchairs on a giant screen set up in front of the National Stadium, opposite the Olympic Steps. A stage beneath the screen will host various entertainment acts. Large Union Jack-style ceremonial banners will be displayed for the occasion to decorate King's Way. Free Union Jack flags, paper crowns, hats, and other decorations will be distributed to attendees.

Shoreditch's Urban Food Fest will operate as a pop-up food market, with picnic tables and a range of street food available on the day, from cake pops and stuffed cookies to pizza and gourmet burgers, while Wembley Park's renowned bakery, Bread Ahead, will delight visitors with its famous doughnuts. Selected artisans will sell locally sourced homewares, gifts, and clothing.

Around Wembley Park's new outdoor stage, the Sound Shell, a special area for families with young children will be created. This family-friendly area will offer various entertainment options, such as face painting, magicians, and stilt walkers. Children will also be able to have fun playing life-size board games like Jenga and other family favorites. For souvenir photos of the day, the Royal Photo Booth will offer visitors the opportunity to pose with "King Charles.".
